How Can I Block Websites Based on Word Content?
With nearly 2 billion Internet users around the world, online safety is a major concern especially for children and teens. Online safety is not just about keeping the hackers away, it is also about blocking access to websites that contain certain unwanted content. Changing the way you or your children experience the worldwide web is increasingly possible as a result of the tools provided by Windows.

From Internet Explorer, go to "Tools" and select "Internet Options."

Click on the "Content" tab and select "Parental Controls." You must have a standard user account set up if you want to apply parental controls to someone not listed. If you don't have a separate user account, click on the "Create a new user account" and follow the prompts.

Go to the "Start" button and in the search box type "windows live family safety." If it doesn't appear, you can download it from the Windows Live Family Safety website (see Resource). The first time you use the program, you will be asked if you want to allow a program to make changes to your computer; click "Yes."

Go back to the "Parental Controls" dialogue box and click on the account you want to monitor. Type in your Windows Live ID and password.

Place a check mark next to the account name you want to monitor and select "Save."

Click on the "familysafety.live.com" link.

Click on the "Edit" button below the account you wish to monitor.

Click the" Web Filtering" option and choose from five filtering options: "Allow List Only" (account holder can only visit sites placed in the allow list); "Child Friendly" (allows sites rated child friendly, blocks adult sites); "General Interest" (allows general interests sites, blocks adult sites); "Online Communication" (allows social networking, email, etc., blocks adult sites); and "Warn on Adult" (allows all sites but warns of adult content).
