How to Deal With Permed Hair When There Is Breakage at the Roots
Unfortunately, perming and coloring can be harmful to your hair despite how good these treatments may look to begin with. Breakage at the roots can happen either when a perm hasn't been done properly or split ends have been left to travel up the hair shaft. The problem with breakage at the roots is that, unlike with split ends, it's not possible to cut the hair off. If your hair looks overly frizzy or damaged, you might have to disguise it while ensuring you are keeping it healthy to prevent any further damage. Does this Spark an idea?

- Leave-in conditioner

Dealing with Damaged Hair
-
1
Stop using chemical treatments such as hair dyes or perms immediately. If you don't already, start using intensive conditioning products to nourish your hair.
-
2
Examine your hair in a mirror to see how much damage has been done. If there is breakage in a small section, you might be able to hide this. If it is extensive and very noticeable, you will need to visit a hairdresser to see if she can find a hairstyle that doesn't show the damage.

3
Apply serum to your hair after washing and drying. The serum will smooth down your hair, add shine and hide the breakage. By applying a little hairspray as well you are effectively "sticking" the broken bits back together temporarily.
-
4
Invest in a wig, hats or scarves if it isn't possible to hide the damaged hair.
Keeping Hair Healthy
-
5
Wash hair using a shampoo for damaged or dry hair. Some shampoos are labeled as being designed specifically for colored and permed hair, meaning they are also suitable for hair with split ends.
-
6
Rinse hair with hot water to ensure pores are open.
-
7
Apply a deep conditioning treatment for dry hair. Massage into scalp and leave for 5 to 10 minutes.
-
8
Rinse hair with cold or cool water to seal the hair's cuticles.
-
9
Pat hair dry with a towel and apply a leave-in conditioner.
