How to Know What Tires to Fit on Your Wheels
When it's time to get a new set of tires for your car, it's important to find the proper size to fit your wheels. If you bring the wrong sized tires to a technician he won't be able to put them on your wheels properly. Luckily, figuring out the right tires to buy is a simple process that you can resolve quickly using one of a few basic methods.

Check the sidewall of the last set of tires on your car for the right size. This contains three pieces of information---the width in millimeters, the aspect ratio of the tire, and the diameter of the wheel. So for instance, your tire might read 205/50R15 (the "R" standard for a radial tire which is common for passenger car tires). Give this number to your tire technician or salesman when you're shopping.

Check in your car's glove compartment or the compartment between the driver and passenger seats for a sticker containing information about your car as another way to figure out the right size. This sticker lists the exact tire size that you need (such as 205/50R15) to fit your car model.

Use the Dunn Tire Search tool to find the proper tire size for your vehicle's wheels. Enter the make and year of the car, then choose the exact model to perform your search. You can also choose a specific tire manufacturer and desired speed rating (the tire's ability to handle certain levels of speed). The tool displays a listing of tires that meet your requirements along with the tire size for your type of car.
