How do I Convert Region 2 DVD Players to Multi Region?

How do I Convert Region 2 DVD Players to Multi Region? thumbnail
Most DVD Players can be modified to play DVDs from all regions.

DVD regions lock DVDs to specific "regions" of the world. A Region 2 DVD player is restricted to playing discs from most of Western Europe, as well as Japan and South Africa. This means they cannot play DVDs from America or any other part of the world. This can be frustrating for those looking to import movies, or for people who have moved to another country only to find their DVD player is incompatible with the DVD sold there. While most DVD players come with region encoding built in, many also have secret "hacks" that can disable the region encoding completely.

Instructions

  1. Using Video Help

    • 1

Find the make and model of your DVD player. This is usually on the front of the player, but on some it may be on the back. This is usually a series of numbers and letters, such as SDVD7011 or HTTX715T. Write this number down.

    • 2

Visit Video Help's DVD Player and Blu-ray Player Region Codes list page. (See Resources.) This is a large database of "region hacks" that disable region encoding.

    • 3

Type the model name of your DVD player in the text box next to "Search DVD Player." If nothing comes up at first, try inputting it without the dashes. If nothing comes up, go to Section 2.

    • 4

Click on the link for your DVD player and follow the instructions posted. These instructions usually involve turning on your DVD player, opening the disc tray and then inputting some sort of code on your remote control. Follow the instructions exactly as they are written. If done correctly, you should be able to change, or in some cases completely disable, your DVD player's region encoding.

    Alternate Method

    • 5

Follow Step 1 of Section 1.

    • 6

Go to your search engine of choice and type in the manufacturer and model number of your DVD player with the words "region code" or "region hack" after it, all in quotes. If you had a Samsung DVD-P191 player, you would type "Samsung DVD-P191 region code."

    • 7

Search the results to find the region hack for your player and then follow Step 4 of Section 1.

Tips & Warnings

  • Some players do not have region hacks.

  • Changing the region code of your DVD player will most likely void the warranty. Proceed at your own risk.
