How to Rip DVD Games

Rip an image of your DVD games in case the original is damaged.

Ripping an image of your DVD games guarantees that you will never have to worry about losing your investment because of scratches or other damage the discs may suffer. In the event of damage to the original, the ripped image file is easily burned to disc and you can enjoy the backup copy in minutes. The ripping process requires third-party software capable of recognizing and decoding the special security measures put in place by manufacturers to prevent copies. Many different software applications exist, but they all work essentially the same way.

Instructions

1. Launch your chosen DVD ripping software program (see Resources) from the desktop shortcut or "Start" menu.

2. Insert the DVD disc into the DVD-ROM drive.

3. Select the DVD-ROM drive as the source for the ripped file from the "Open" selection under the "File" menu.

4. Select a folder on the hard drive to save the ripped file to under the "Destination" field.

5. Press the "Start" button to begin the ripping process. This may take anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes depending on the size of the game disc.
