How do I Create Coloring Book Pages Using Inkscape?
Use the free graphic software package, Inkscape, to produce your own coloring book pages. Inkscape is straightforward to use and you can create coloring book pages in a variety of styles in a matter of minutes. You can create them for your own children and also make thoughtful gifts.

Open Inkscape. Set the page size by going to "File", then "Document Properties". Open the "Page" window and select the page size that you require, either by selecting a preset size or by creating a custom size.

Go to "File", then "Save As" and save the document. Remember to save your work periodically while working, either by going to "File" and then clicking "Save", or by pressing the disc icon on the tool bar.

Create your design on the page, either by drawing directly in Inkscape or by importing an image that you have saved on your computer. Import an image by going to "File", then "Import", then selecting the file from your computer.

View your design on the page and ensure that there are plenty of bold closed shapes for coloring. Check that the page layout is correct for binding if you intend to make your coloring pages into a coloring book.

Print the coloring page using the "Print" function.

Tips & Warnings
If you are not comfortable with drawing in Inkscape, use some copyright-free black-and-white clip art images as part of your design.
If you want to use a color image, use the trace function by going to "Path" and then "Trace Bitmap" to trace your image. This will give you a black-and-white outline.
Save any key elements of your coloring page design (any characters you have developed, for instance) in a separate document that you can use again in another design.
