How do I Power Cycle an Arris T402 Modem?

The Arris T402 modem is a telephony modem often used by cable Internet providers such as Comcast and Charter. When a modem has a problem connecting to the Internet or being detected by peripherals that connect to it, such as a router, a power cycle is used to reset the modem. Power cycling is an important troubleshooting step and slightly more complicated on a telephony modem such as the Arris T402, as the backup battery will not allow the modem to be powered down completely simply by pulling the power.

Instructions

    • 1

Disconnect your Arris T402 modem's power cable from the back of the modem.

    • 2

Turn the Arris T402 upside down. Press the latches on the battery bay door down and pull the panel toward you. Pull the battery out of the bay by its pull tab. You may have two batteries to remove depending on the Arris T402 modem model. Wait 30 seconds to one minute so the modem completely powers down.

    • 3

Insert the batteries back in the base of the modem. Press them into the bay until they latch into place. Snap the bay cover back into place. Return the power cable to the power port on the modem.
