Our spirit guide has been called many things: spirit animal, guardian angel or higher self. A spirit guide is an entity that assists us with overall guidance and chooses to help us on our journey to enlightenment. Prepare a quiet place where you are not likely to be disturbed. Make sure that no other people or distractions are around to bother you during your attempt to contact your spirit guides. Make sure the area is clean and free of clutter, because clutter creates chaos and you want things to be as calming as possible. Light a few candles if it help soothe your mind. Turn the phone ringer off, lock the door and turn off electronics.

Perform a basic protection ritual that will discourage foul spirits from approaching you and doing physical or mental harm. Do this by standing centered in a circle of salt or pentacle and asking the four elements for protection from evil spirits. Focus on being enveloped in a protective light within the circle. Imagine it enveloping you and surrounding you completely.

Find a comfortable position for your body to be in for an extended amount of time. You can sit cross-legged, lay flat on a bed, or sit lotus style on a floor pillow--whatever position makes you feel comfortable and peaceful. Try not to have any preconceptions of who or what your spirit guide will appear to be. Doing so could cause disappointment or even project a delusion in your mind's eye, distorting real contact from an imaginary thought.

Close your eyes and envision a peaceful place. Often people use a staircase or garden as their mental place to meet their guides. Once you fully envision this place and begin to soak up details such as smells, sounds and feelings, ask your spirit guides to show themselves. They may or may not speak, but what is important is the feeling they impose on you. Pay attention to the feelings you get while interacting with your guides. Those feelings are direct indicators of a spiritual path.

Ask for a sign from your spirit guides if none appear to you in your mental meeting place. Give a time-frame in which they can show themselves, such as seven to 10 days. It should be something reasonable and believable to you.

Watch for signs that your spirit guide is trying to communicate with you on a daily basis. These signs could include hearing a song repeatedly on the radio, every traffic light you come to being red, or seeing an animal over and over again. Things you typically take for granted could be signs you need to pay attention to, your guide telling you to slow down, or even your guide showing itself to you.

I see and feel presence around me and the loving, calming sensations it they give. I have even woken up in the morning to see a woman's arms wrapped lovingly around me, giving me the feeling of unconditional love that carried me to work and remained for 5 hours. I feel a bridge between their contacting me and my understanding what they are trying to relay. Any advice?
