How do I Change a Broadband ISP?
ISP stands for Internet service provider. Broadband refers to a high-speed Internet connection. A broadband ISP is a company that provides you with high-speed Internet service. The number of broadband service providers that service your locale will depend on where you are geographically situated. Oftentimes, if you live in a more urban setting, you will have a greater selection of ISPs.

1
Contact your current broadband ISP. Ask to speak with a customer service representative. You will have to provide some form of identifying information, such as your account number or home phone number.
-
2
Ask whether there are any penalties associated with canceling your service. You want to make sure you are not under any sort of contract that entails a cancellation fee. If you are under a contract, you can ask if the ISP will waive it. If it will not, you may want to consider staying with your current ISP until the contract duration is up.

3
Contact other ISPs that service your area. If you are unsure of what ISPs service is in your area, contact your city government and ask. They will be able to provide you with a list of utility providers, including ISPs.
-
4
Ask the other ISPs about their offerings. See if they will provide you with any special deals or discounts to entice you to switch.
-
5
Select a new ISP based on your research. Give that provider a date that you would like your new service to start.
-
6
Call your old ISP and tell it that you would like to cancel service on the day your new service is supposed to start. If you do not mind a break in your service, then you may ask to have your Internet service immediately canceled.

Tips & Warnings
If your new broadband ISP provides a different type of broadband service than your current ISP, such as DSL or cable broadband, you may have to incur an additional fee or equipment rental/purchase and installation. You can try to negotiate with the new ISP to have the fee waived.
