How to Build a Squirrel Feeder Swing

How to Build a Squirrel Feeder Swing thumbnail
You can feed your local squirrels with a squirrel feeder swing.

If you have a lot of squirrels around your home, it can be difficult to keep them from eating food out of your bird feeders. Instead of shooing the squirrels away, you can set out a squirrel feeder swing that they can munch on instead of bird seed. Although you could buy a pre-made squirrel feeder, you can save money by making your own squirrel feeder right at home using a few simple materials.

Things You'll Need

  • Wood rectangle, 1 inch by 6 inches by 8 inches
  • Wood square, 1 inch by 6 inches by 6 inches
  • Drill
  • Three screws
  • Two hook screws
  • Ear of corn

Instructions

    • 1

Place one edge of the wood square against a flat side of the wood rectangle, arranging it so that the square sticks out perpendicularly from the rectangle.

    • 2

Drill two screws into the back of the rectangle and through the edge of the square, securing them together.

    • 3

Drill a long screw up through the bottom of the wood square, leaving the pointed end exposed.

    • 4

Drill two hook screws into the top edge of the rectangle.

    • 5

Tie a piece of twine onto the hook screws to allow you to hang up the squirrel feeder swing.

    • 6

Twist an ear of corn onto the exposed screw.
