An alternate eBay user ID has many valuable uses.

There are many reasons for having an alternate eBay user ID. It can be beneficial if you plan to buy items on eBay that you don't want to appear on your main user ID (such as gifts for family or friends, for example). If you are an eBay seller, an alternate Seller Account is useful if you wish to keep different types of products separate.

Bring up eBay's home page and click "register." Verify that you wish to sign up for a new account. You must sign up for a new account to establish an alternate user ID on eBay; they do not allow multiple IDs to be linked together. Complete the fields in the one-page sign-up form, including your name, address, phone number and alternate eBay user ID name and password.

Enter the email address for this alternate account on the sign-up page. Do not use the email account that is listed on your original eBay user account or your registration will not be accepted. You must have an alternate email address for this alternate user ID.

Establish a Seller's Account on the alternate user ID if you wish to sell items under the user ID by clicking "Sell" at the top of the eBay home page. You will be directed to create a Seller Account, which is free. You will need to verify your identity and enter a valid credit card number. You also must tell eBay how you will pay your Seller's fees and what payment methods you will accept from your buyers by filling out the fields on the form.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you do not have a secondary email account, you can establish one for free at Google or Yahoo.

  • Do not use one eBay user ID to bid on auctions you are running on the other eBay user ID, in an attempt to drive up the price. eBay polices this activity heavily, and if you are caught they may suspend or revoke your account.

  • If one of your user eBay IDs is suspended, eBay may take action on your other user IDs by restricting them.
