How to Install a Telnet Client

Telnet is a text-based communications program that allows you to connect to other computers over the Internet. If you are granted access by the administrator on the computer to which you are connected, you can even execute commands that allow you to access programs and services on the remote computer. Windows 2000 and XP have a built-in Telnet client, called Hyperterminal, but you'll need to install a Telnet client if you are running Windows Vista or Windows 7. You can do this through the Windows Features tool.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the "Start" menu and choose "Control Panel."

    • 3

    • 4

Click on the "Telnet Client" checkbox and click "OK" to install the Telnet client.
