How to Install a Gun Vault Steel Security Cable

How to Install a Gun Vault Steel Security Cable thumbnail
A steel security cable keeps a Gun Vault secure.

A security cable adds an additional level of security for the items stored in a Gun Vault safe. The security cable loops around a stationary object mounted in your home and connects to the back of the Gun Vault. To make the security cable installation easier, Gun Vaults have a knock-out that provides a secure connecting point between the end of the cable and the gun safe. The knock-out's location provides the securest connection point for the security cable.

Instructions

    • 1

Align the point of a punch with the center of the knock-out located on the backside of the Gun Vault. Hit the back of the punch with a hammer to angle the knock-out into the Gun Vault. Grab the end of the knock-out with a pair of lineman's pliers. Move the knockout back and forth with the lineman's pliers until the knock-out snaps free.

    • 2

Slide the loop located on one end of the security cable around a stationary object located near the Gun Vault. Push the threaded end of the security cable through the loop. Pull the threaded end of the security cable to tighten the cable around the stationary object.

    • 3

Push the threaded end of the security cable into the hole left by the knockout. Hold the security cable in place.

    • 4

Slide a star washer, which is included with the security cable, over the threaded end of the security cable. Thread the hex nut (also included) onto the threaded end of the security cable.

    • 5

Tighten the hex nut with an adjustable wrench. Slide the hitch pin through the hole located near the back of the tightened nut. Push the hitch pin into the hole with a pair of lineman's pliers.
