How do I Find an Address in SEC Prospectus Filings?

The U. S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) monitors and regulates companies that offer securities for public sale. Certain reports of business activities and financial statements must be filed with the SEC in order to comply with the regulations. All of these filings are public information. To maximize accessibility, the SEC developed the Edgar database and made it available on the Internet, so individuals can search all filings for data about companies of interest to them.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to the SEC's Edgar database page (see References).

    • 2

Select the option to search by company or fund name, ticker symbol, CIK (Central Index Key), file number, state, country, or SIC (Standard Industrial Classification).

    • 3

Enter the company name in the space provided. If you are not sure of the exact name, click on the option below the name box to search "Contains" for instances of your search item anywhere in the name field.

    • 4

Scroll the search results to find the company of interest. Click on the Central Index Key number to the left of the company name to display details about company filings. If there is only one result for your search, the company information will display immediately. The business and mailing addresses for the company are displayed on the header above the list of filings.

    • 5

Scroll the list of filings and look for form types 424, 425, 497 or 498. These are all prospectus filings. Click on the option for "Html" or "Text" next to the form number to see a view of a specific filing in its entirety. The system may display another page showing links to multiple documents that are all parts of a single filing.
