How to Unzip in GZ Format
Individually sending a large number of files from one computer to another is a time-consuming task. Instead, most people combine multiple files into a single archive file, using tools that package the files together and utilize specialized algorithms to compress the contents and conserve disk space. ZIP is one of the most popular archive formats, but many others can perform the same task, including the open-source GZ format. As long as you have one of several common archiving programs installed on your computer, extracting the contents of a GZ-formatted archive requires just a few clicks.
