How to Send Window Remote Assistance With Yahoo

When a friend or co-worker needs help accomplishing a task on his or her PC, one way of explaining is taking control of his or her computer remotely. Trying to explain a complicated task or program over the phone can be difficult. There are many screen sharing clients available for both PC and Mac, and some are free. These programs often require a session ID, log-in and password, or downloaded client to work properly. Windows has a built-in screen sharing and remote assistance client that is easily accessible and only requires a password to login.

Instructions

      Press the "Start" button in the bottom toolbar, choose "Help and Support" and select "Ask for assistance." In the new window choose,"Invite a friend to connect to your computer with Remote Assistance."

      Choose "Invite Someone To Help You," and then click "Save Invitation As A File."

      Type a name into the "Name" box and choose a time limit for the invitation. Press "Continue." Create a password that you will give to the person requesting assistance and click "Save Invitation." In the "Save File" dialog box, choose a location such as the "Desktop" and click "OK."

      Open your Web browser and navigate to Yahoo.com. Click on "Mail" in the left column. Login to your account by entering your username and password and click "Login."

      Click on "Compose" to open a new email. Type the email address of the person requiring assistance in the "To" field. Press "Attach" and navigate to the file you created, choose it and press "OK." Click "Send."

      Advise the person receiving the remote assistance invitation of the password you created for this file. Ask the person to check their email open the file you sent. This will begin the remote assistance session.

Tips & Warnings

  • During the remote assistance session, you can send files directly to the other person via the chat window. Choose "Send a File", navigate to the file, select it and press "Send File."

  • Be sure that the recipient responds to the invitation before the expiration time passes. If the invitation expires, repeat the process.
