Instructions

    • 1

Attempt to repair the chair's rips with duct tape by covering rips of holes with duct tape. Make sure to cover both sides of the rip with duct tape to avoid tape sticking to sand, itself or any carrying case. Duct tape may not work for larger holes or rips.

    • 2

Measure the size of the rip or hole.

    • 3

Cut fabric "patches" to fill in rips or holes. Make the patches slightly bigger than the rip or hole so you have room to sew them onto the chair.

    • 4

Sew fabric patches onto the chair. This method should work for chairs with moderate damage. However, if the fabric on your chair has completely detached from the arms and legs you may need to move onto the next step.

    • 5

Remove the necessary section of fabric from the chair. In many cases this will mean removing all the fabric.

    • 6

Measure the dimensions of the chair's original fabric.

    • 7

Cut out a long piece of fabric, about 14 inches wider than the space between the chair. Length can vary slightly but you should stick close to the original fabric dimensions.

    • 8

Sew the new fabric around the chair. Cover one end of the chair with the edge of the fabric and sew the fabric around the chair's base. Do the same with the other side of the fabric.

Tips & Warnings

  • When re-doing the fabric on some chairs you may have to sew two separate chunks of fabric onto the chair--one section for the back and one for the seat.
