How do I Use Ritz Dye to Make Turqoise Color?
Named for the semi-precious turquoise stone, the color turquoise is a beautiful and desirable color that looks sweet and feminine. Even if your favorite item or shirt doesn't come in this color, dying it with Rit dye is easy. Dye items that are originally white for the best true-to-tone color, or dye light items in various colors for a twist.
Things You'll Need
- Soap
- Liquid Rit Dye in Aquamarine
- Measuring Cup
- Spoon
- Disposable bucket/container
- Rubber gloves
- Paper towels
- Plastic table cloth
Instructions
-
-
1
Pre-wash the item with soap and water, or run clothing articles through the laundry.
-
2
Work outside to prevent getting dye around your house. Cover the ground you'll be working at with a plastic table cloth.
-
-
3
Put on rubber gloves to protect your fingers from the dye.
-
4
Shake the Rit Aquamarine Dye to distribute all the color, and pour ½ cup of it into a bucket or large disposable plastic container. For a quick disposable plastic container, cut the top off of a gallon milk jug and pour the dye into the base of it.
-
5
Bring 4 cups of water to about 140 degrees on the stove.
-
6
Pour the hot water into the plastic container. Shake the container to blend it or mix the liquid together with a metal spoon.
-
7
Test the dye color by dipping a piece of a paper towel into it. If it is too dark to be turquoise, add more water by a half-cup at a time. If it is too light, add more dye until appropriate.
-
8
Dip the item you wish to dye into the turquoise mixture.
-
9
Stir the solution continuously to ensure an even color around the item.
-
10
Remove the item from the dye when the desired turquoise color is reached.
-
11
Wash the item by itself in a gentle soap and water mixture until the water runs clear.
-
12
Repeat the steps if necessary until the desired color is reached.
