How do I Change the Dictionary Language in Microsoft Word 2000?
Microsoft Word 2000, a word processing package for Windows systems, lets you compose documents in a variety of languages other than English. The program includes the ability to select the language you want to work in as well as a dictionary for that specific language. Microsoft Word 2000's default language settings are part its user configuration and changeable even while you are editing a document. The dictionary is completely customizable and includes common words found in that specific language.

Open Microsoft Word 2000 if necessary by clicking "Start" > "All Programs" > "Microsoft Word".

Click "File" > "Open". Navigate to the document you want to open. Double-click on the file's name to open it.

Click "Edit" > "Select All" to select the document's text. Click "Tools" > "Language".

Select "Set Language". Scroll through the list of languages and click on the one you want to use.

Click the "Default" button to select this language as the one you always want to use. Click "OK".

Tips & Warnings
Microsoft Word 2000 includes dictionaries for English, Spanish and French. If you selected another language, you will need to obtain that its dictionary from a licensed Microsoft reseller and copy the dictionary (.dic) file to the following file location: C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Microsoft\Proof, where "user_name" is your Windows user name. Open Microsoft Word 2000 and click "Options" > "Tools". Click the "Spelling & Grammar" tab, and then "Custom Dictionaries" to select the language's dictionary.
