How do I Sell Directly to a Gold Refiner?

How do I Sell Directly to a Gold Refiner? thumbnail
You can sell gold directly to a refiner.

Selling to a gold refiner can easily be done by anyone who has the legal right to sell the gold in their possession. Many times, all you have to do is send in your gold or bring it in person, and the refiner will provide you payment. Some may require contracts, minimum quantities, or other requirements, but others will buy anything you can sell them. Selling directly to a refiner is a good way to avoid the middle man and get a higher price for your gold.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate a gold refinery. There are many to choose from. Pick one that best suits your needs and offers the best price. Some may only cater to businesses only while others will buy from the general public. Make sure it is an actual refinery, and not a middle man. Ask them whether they refine the gold at their own facility to determine the business is not a middle man.

Call the refinery and ask what its requirements are to sell gold, and how to get the best price. Find out information like the types of gold they accept (like plated or solid), minimum quantities, prices, whether or not a contract is required, whether they sell to the general public or businesses only, and any other relevant information. Each refinery may have its own requirements. Not every refinery will be the same, so it is a good idea to ask each one you are interested in, to avoid potential problems later.

    • 3

Send your gold to the gold refiner and get your money. It would be a good idea to sort your gold by karat and type, as you may get a better price if it is sorted. Keep in mind that many gold refiners will only want solid gold and will not accept plated gold, but there are some that will take plated gold scrap in person.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't sell to the gold buyers seen on T.V. as they will offer lower prices.
