Snap peas, or sugar snap peas, are similar in nature, nutrition and cooking methods to snow peas. Snap peas benefit from a short steaming, which does not reduce the vitamin C content, according to the University of Illinois. A 3-oz. serving of steamed snap peas contains 40 calories, no fat or cholesterol, 15 percent of the daily value of vitamin A, 25 percent of vitamin C, and 6 percent of calcium, based on a 2,000-calorie diet, according to My Fitness Pal.   • Colander

Instructions

      Snap the stem end off a snap pea pod. Peel the string off with the stem and discard it. Repeat with each pea pod.

      Place all snap peas in the colander. Rinse thoroughly under clear, running water.

      Put the snap peas in the steaming basket and place on the pot, using the hot pad. Close the lid and steam the peas for one to two minutes.

    • 4

      Remove the lid and steam basket with the hot pads.
