You can easily set up your DSL connection through the Windows network settings.

When installing your DSL (digital subscriber line) connection, you simply need to use the set-up CD given to you by SBC or set up a broadband connection through your Windows network settings.

      Check to make sure your modem is connected to your computer and the phone jack. Register your DSL line with SBC Global (see Resources). Enter the number of the telephone line you signed up for service on and then follow the on-screen instructions to finish registration. You will choose your account user name and password here. Write these down.

      Click "Start" on the Windows taskbar and go to the "Control Panel." Click "Network and Internet" and then "Create a new connection." The new connection wizard will come up.

      Select "Connect to the Internet" when prompted and then select "Set up my connection manually."

      Choose "Connect using a broadband connection that requires a username and password."

      Type a name such as "SBC Global DSL" when asked for your Internet service provider.

      Type your user name and password. This was chosen when you registered your line earlier. Contact SBC Global if you do not remember this information. Select "Make this the default Internet connection." Deselect "Turn off Internet Connection Firewall for this Connection." Click "Finish."
