How Do I Identify Science Equipment for Kids on a Review Worksheet? thumbnail
Ensure your students can correctly identify lab equipment for safety in the science lab.

As a science teacher, you will be responsible for teaching children to recognize the equipment that is used in your classroom or science laboratory. Once they have been taught about the equipment during class, it is time for a review. Using a review worksheet can be one method. A thorough review includes pictures of the equipment, descriptions of their uses and their names.

Instructions

    • 1

      Write the directions for the worksheet instructing the students to first match the picture on the right side of the paper with the description of its function on the left side of the paper by drawing a line from its description to its picture. Ask them to write the name of the equipment on the line below the pictures.

      Provide a word bank at the top of your paper identifying each type of equipment.

      Make a numbered list on the left side of the paper describing the use of each piece of equipment. For example, "Enlarges images of microscopic organisms so that they can be seen by the naked eye" is the description of the function of a microscope.

      Locate pictures of the lab equipment you have reviewed in class on the Internet. Use photographs for older students and clip art or drawings for younger students. Copy and paste the images vertically onto the right half of your worksheet.

      Pass out the worksheets. Preview the directions before they begin to ensure your students understand how to complete the worksheet. Administer the assignment to your students.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you want your worksheet to be more of a challenge, do not provide a word bank.

  • Instead of directing students to draw a line from the function to the corresponding picture, first number or letter the equipments' functions. Direct older students to match the function to the picture by placing the number (or letter) of the description on a line next to the picture.
