How to Engrave the Inside of Glass
Engraving is the process by which you can remove a thin layer of a material in specific designs, like initials or patterns, to create a 3D effect. You can find engraving on metal jewelry, wooden furniture and glassware of all varieties. You can make your own engraved glasses and keep the rough edges away from your hands by making the engraving on the inside. Just remember to flip the image you are using because you will be tracing it from behind on the inside of the glass.

1
Tape the image you want to engrave to the outside of the glass. Make sure the mirrored image is facing inward so you can see it clearly on the inside.
-
2
Lay the glass on its side with the taped image against the table. Lightly clamp it to the table so it doesn't move while you are working.
-
-
3
Touch the tip of the rotary tool to the point of the image nearest to you. Do not rest in one spot for too long or you will drill through the glass.
-
4
Move swiftly along the lines of the image until you have drawn the entire image. Stop occasionally and wipe away the dust being created with a soft cloth.
-
5
Take the image off the glass and wash it thoroughly. Make sure there is no glass powder left on it before letting anyone drink from it.

Tips & Warnings
Use very broad, wide-mouthed cups with straight sides for the easiest access to the inside of the glass.
Do not keep a fan on near your work area or work outdoors on a windy day or the glass dust will get spread all over and could be very dangerous.
