How to Silence a Cricket
A cricket is a small insect that is best known for its summertime chirping that fills the warm evening air. While this sound is pleasant and soothing when enjoying an outdoor picnic, you don't want to have to deal with it constantly in your home. So if you get a cricket in the house that is incessantly chirping, there is a simple and painless way to get the chirping to stop. The added bonus is that using this method also allows you to remove them from your house without killing them.

Isolate the location of the cricket to a room by listening for the chirping. This may take some time, so try to get someone to help you and spread out throughout the house until you find it.

Close the door to the room the cricket is in or block the entrance with something else if the room doesn't have a door. This will keep the cricket from escaping to the rest of the house.

Turn the temperature in the room to make it as cold as possible. If you have air conditioning in the room, lower it as much as possible. Use fans and ice to cool off a room without air conditioning.

Wait for the cricket to stop chirping. When the room gets really cold, the cricket will stop moving as well as chirping.

Go into the room with the cricket and find it while it is quiet. You should be able to get right near it when it is still.

Trap the cricket in a cup or container and take it outside. Don't release the cricket until you are well away from your house to avoid letting it back in.

Tips & Warnings
Check the ground and around the door of your home before opening to prevent crickets getting inside in the first place.
Do not trap children or pets in the room with the cricket when you make it cold, as it might not be tolerable for them.
