TurboTax is an online tax filing service that offers free basic filing services for individuals or paid filing services for business and property owners. When filing your taxes on TurboTax, you are given a copy of your tax return to download and store. It is relatively easy, however, to misplace a prior return. The TurboTax website offers a way to retrieve previous tax returns.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to the TurboTax website. Then click the “Support” tab at the top of the page.

    • 2

Navigate to the “Printing and E-filing” tab, and go to “Saving Your Return.” Select “Retrieving Your Back-Ups,” then “Access a Prior-Year Tax Data File.”

    • 3

Verify which version of TurboTax you used. For TurboTax Online users, sign in to your account. Go to the “Home” tab; then click “View your returns from prior years.”

    • 4

Find your tax return on your computer if you used TurboTax Desktop Software. In your computer's “Search” box, type “.tax2009” or “.tax2008” if you filed in those years or “.tax” for 2007 and earlier. Once the file is located, open your return by using the TurboTax software from the corresponding year.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have misplaced your TurboTax Desktop Software, it can be downloaded again up to three years after purchase.
