How to Dye Your Hair Blond Without It Looking Weird
Coloring your hair blond is a big step, especially if you have naturally dark hair. When you dye your hair blond, the peroxide in the dye mixture lightens your hair in stages. If you are not careful, your hair may end up looking brassy and streaked with orange. Bleach is harmful to your hair, so it is key not to over-bleach to get rid of a brassy color. Not only will this method not work, but it will leave your hair completely stripped. Fortunately, there are ways to bleach your hair without it looking, for lack of a better word, weird. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Hair bleach kit
- Bowl
- Tint brush
- Shower cap
- Conditioner
- Ash blond semi-permanent hair color
Instructions

1
Mix together the bleach powder and the developer into a bowl.
-
2
Apply the bleach all over your head, starting from the ends and working your way up to about 2 to 3 inches from the scalp. Bleach is heat activated, so the hair closest to the warmth of your scalp will lighten faster. Leave some of the mixed bleach to the side.

-
3
Place a shower cap over your head and allow the bleach to process. Check the color every 5 to 10 minutes. When the color begins to turn light orange, apply the remaining mixed bleach to your roots, avoiding the scalp.
-
4
Let the color process for a maximum of an hour to 90 minutes. Check your hair every 5 to 10 minutes. When your hair reaches the desired lightness, remove the shower cap.
-
5
Rinse the bleach out of your hair with cool water and apply a deep conditioner to your hair. Allow the conditioner to sit for a few minutes, then rinse it out.
-
6
Let your hair air dry naturally. Blow-drying with heat can further damage your hair.
-
7
Mix together the ingredients of the ash blond semi-permanent color. Apply the ash color all over your hair and let it process. The ash color will neutralize the brassy tones in your hair.
-
8
Rinse the color from your hair and style as usual.
