Turn on your computer. Wait for the desktop to load. Download anti-virus software from a reputable website (see Resources). Click "Download Now" and then click "Save File." Double-click the file once it has downloaded and click "Run" to start the installation of the software. Click "OK" to finish installing the software.

Double-click on the program to open the software. Click "Start Scan" to allow the software to scan your computer for malicious programs and viruses. Click "OK" once the scan has finished to view the results. Double-click "Fix" to allow the software to correct the detected problems and to remove programs that allow hackers to access your computer.

Enable your firewall to keep out hackers. Go to the "Start" menu on your computer and click "Control Panel." Click "Security" and find "Windows Firewall." Double-click "Turn Windows Firewall on or off" and click "On" under the General tab. Click "OK" to finish and apply the settings.
