How do I Calculate the Volume of a Water Storage Tank?

Water storage tanks come in a variety of shapes, and some include freeboard, which is the distance between the top of the tank and the maximal water level. The volume for any of these is calculable with formulas from geometry, but an online calculator makes it even easier.

Things You'll Need

  • Computer with Internet access
  • Go to the tank capacity calculators page at Waste and website.

  • Choose the tank that matches the tank you have.

  • Enter the appropriate information--e.g., for liquid flat bottom tank, you need to enter the height of the tank, the diameter and the freeboard. For a slope bottom tank, you must also enter the slope.

  • Press submit and read your answer.
