How to Resolve Common Printer Problems
Although it is not possible to describe printer problems for all types and models, there are troubleshooting techniques you can apply to all kinds of printers. The most common printer problems include installation/driver issues, paper jams and printer errors. It is important that you know how to troubleshoot these problems on your own so you will not need the help of a printer technician every time you encounter a problem.

1
Ensure that the printer is turned on, and that the cables that it comes with are properly connected to the computer.

2
Check if the printer is already installed on your computer. Click "Start," and then "Printers and Faxes." If the name of the printer is listed in the window, the printer is already installed in the computer. If the name of the printer is not listed, proceed to the next step.

Place the printer installation CD into the optical drive of your computer and wait for the driver to launch automatically. Follow the onscreen installation instructions, and then reboot the computer once installation is complete.

4
Fix a paper jam problem. Check the error message displayed on your screen and read the instructions on how to troubleshoot the paper jam problem. If the computer does not display this information, some printers have buttons that you can hold down to remove the paper stuck in the printer. Open one side of the printer casing to remove the paper. Read the printer's manual for specific instructions.

Replace the ink or toner cartridge of the printer if you notice blurred printouts. If the printouts are dirty, clean the print head. Tips & Warnings
Consult the manual of the printer you are using for troubleshooting tips. If you have lost the user manual, visit the manufacturer's website and search for it there.
If none of the steps above help you troubleshoot the problem you are having, you can have it checked in the manufacturer's service center. If it is still under warranty, the service should be done for free, depending on the terms and conditions laid out by the manufacturer.
