How do I Make an Artificial Tissue Paper Hawaiian Lei?
Make tropical flower leis with brightly colored tissue paper and a few other craft supplies at home. The process is simple enough for children to participate in the creation of the leis as well. Whether you are making a Hawaiian Halloween costume, planning a tropical-themed party or just looking for a fun craft activity for a rainy day, tissue paper leis are an option with little mess or complication.
Things You'll Need
- Yarn
- Scissors
- Green drinking straws or large green beads
- Tissue paper
- Hole punch

Cut a length of yarn with scissors as long as you want your lei.

Tie a knot at one end of the yarn.

Cut a green drinking straw into 1-inch segments with scissors.

Slide a green bead or drinking straw segment onto the yarn.

Cut several flower shapes from different colors of tissue paper.

Punch holes in the center of each flower shape with a hole punch.

Thread the end of the yarn through the hole in the center of one of the flowers and follow it with a segment of straw or a bead. Alternate between beads or straw segments and flowers until the yarn is covered.

Tie the un-knotted end of the lei to the knotted end. Your lei is ready to wear.
