How do I Make a Free Family Tree with Paper?
Creating a family tree by hand is a thoughtful keepsake for your personal home or to give as a gift to a relative. You can make a family tree with some paper, paint and a few materials and tools, using a fine pen to fill in the names of generations of your family members. Framing this piece of art makes it a focal point that can be shared and pored over during family gatherings or celebrations.

1
Paint a basic tree shape onto a piece of white craft paper. Fill most of the paper with a rounded green shape for the bulk of the tree, and paint a small brown tree trunk at the bottom. Let dry.
-
2
Draw lines throughout the green portion of the tree using a ruler and a black marker. The lines should be about two inches long each and you need to draw one for each relative that will be included on the tree.

3
Fill in a name at each line with the marker. Write the names of the youngest family members at the bottom of the tree, adding the older relatives in order going up the tree.
-
4
Paint branches to connect each family member to parents and spouses using a thin paint brush and some brown paint. Let dry.
-
5
Place the picture in a decorative wall frame and hang, or give as a gift to a family member.

Tips & Warnings
Write the birthday of relatives under their names on the tree.
Don't draw with the marker on the paper if the paint is still damp, as the marker will bleed.
