How Do I Install DDR2 RAM on My Laptop?

Install DDR RAM memory on your laptop.

DDR2 RAM is common type of memory module for laptops. Installing more memory of this type is recommended when your system seems to be unresponsive or experiencing a lot of crashes. Refer to the system's user manual for specific directions as to the type and amount of memory needed. The entire process of installing memory takes about 10 minutes.

Instructions

1. Close any applications running on your laptop. Shut down the laptop and unplug all cords and cables.

2. Wait until the laptop cools a bit. Touch an unpainted metal surface to remove the static electricity from your body and clothes.

3. Turn the laptop over and place it on a sturdy, flat surface.

4. Remove the battery pack. Remove the screws that hold the memory compartment door onto the laptop. Remove the memory compartment door.

5. Spread the metal clips off of the memory module and remove it from the slot.

6. Take the new module out of the package without touching the metal edge. Match the notch on the new module with the knob in the slot. Slide the new module into the slot at an angle. Press down on the module so it lies flat in the memory compartment.

7. Put the compartment door back on the laptop and fasten the screws. Put the battery back in the laptop. Connect all of the necessary cords and cables and turn on the laptop.
