How do I Use Frontline Plus & Sentry Flea Shampoo With Permethrin?

Bathing your pet with special shampoo can help get rid of fleas.

Because dogs play outside so often in thick brush and grass, they are at significant risk of getting fleas---small, flightless insects that feed on the blood of humans and pets. Fleas are usually found in cool, shaded resting spots outdoors. You can treat fleas on your dog with a combination of Frontline Plus and Sentry Flea Shampoo with Permethrin. You can use the products in either order, but pay attention to the guidelines and directions on the packaging. Because you need to wait 48 hours to bathe a pet after using Frontline, it may be best to apply the Sentry Flea Shampoo first.

Instructions

  1. Frontline Plus

    • 1

Remove the correct-sized pipette from its foil packaging. Which pipette you use is determined by your pet's weight. Consult the chart on the package which is also available on the Frontline Plus website.

    • 2

Break the tip off of the pipette at the serrated line.

    • 3

Apply the medication to an area where the dog cannot lick or scratch. The back of the neck is recommended by the product's manufacturer. Part your dog's fur and drop the medication right on the skin with the pipette.

    Sentry Flea Shampoo with Permethrin

    • 4

Brush your pet before bathing it. This will make bathing it easier.

    • 5

Put a cotton ball in each of your dog's ears. Dr. Larry Deusch, a veterinarian, says that doing this can prevent ear infections.

    • 6

Put on rubber gloves to protect your hands.

    • 7

Wet your pet's fur with warm water.

    • 8

Dispense a generous amount of shampoo on your pet's back.

    • 9

Lather up the flea shampoo and make sure to get into the deepest parts of your pet's fur. Don't get shampoo in your pet's face and take particular care around the eyes.

    • 10

Rinse the product from your pet with warm water.

    • 11

Dry your pet with a towel.

    • 12

Brush your pet's fur to prevent it from tangling.

    • 13

Remove the cotton balls from your dog's ears.

Tips & Warnings

  • Consult your veterinarian when beginning this regimen. Only your vet can determine what is best for your pet.

  • Pets need to be dry when you apply Frontline to them.

  • Use Frontline Plus every two to three weeks during tick season.

  • For best results, do not bathe your pet for 48 hours after applying Frontline.

  • Sentry does make formulas for cats, but the dog and cat formulas are not interchangeable.
