How do I Fix CD Error Code 41?
Windows Device Manager will generate an error code in the event of a problem with a particular piece of hardware on your computer. Error code 41 appears when Windows has managed to successfully load the drivers for an external device but cannot find the device itself. This error can occur if you connect an external CD drive or any other device. Fixing the problem should be relatively straightforward using the troubleshooting wizard or by following a few simple steps.

Uninstall the driver for the CD drive. Connect the CD drive to the computer and click "Scan for Hardware Changes" to force Windows to re-install the driver.

Click "Start" > "Control Panel" > "System." Select the "Hardware" tab and click the "Device Manager" button. Right-click the external CD drive and click "Properties", click the "Driver" tab. Select "Update Driver" and follow the "Hardware Update Wizard" to update the drivers.

Install a newer version of the CD drive's driver if it is not plug-and-play compatible. Click "Start" then "Run"; enter "hdwwiz.cpl" into the box (no quotation marks) and click "Run." Follow the "Add Hardware" wizard to install drivers for the drive.
