Makeup for darker skin tones is different than makeup for lighter skin because it has undertones that many lighter skin tones do not need to worry about. Choosing the appropriate makeup is as important as application.

Instructions

1. Apply a liquid foundation to the skin. The color will vary depending on the exact shade of skin and should match the neck rather than the face. Choose a foundation that also matches any undertones in the skin, such as a warm undertone that is highlighted in the skin.

2. Dust baby powder onto the foundation lightly. While baby powder is not an actual color, it helps the foundation set without ruining the color. Always use a light dusting of baby powder to set the liquid foundation and brush off any excess.

3. Apply eyeshadow. The best color eyeshadow will depend on the eye color rather than the skin color. Store guides in eyeshadow areas will show which color combination are best for the specific eye color. For example, use a shade of purple to make green eyes stand out.

4. Apply eyeliner as close to the lash line as possible. Start from the inside of the eye and work toward the outside of the eye. Gradually thicken the eyeliner while moving toward the outer corner of the eye.

5. Apply lipstick. Use a lipstick that is similar to skin complexion rather than a bright and dramatic lipstick. Darker skin tones look best with colors like caramel rather than red. Medium colors are ideal for dark complexions.
