Things You'll Need

  • Frosted birthday cake
  • Straight pretzel sticks (6 for each fence panel)
  • Waxed paper
  • Extra icing
  • Butter knife
  • Tear off a sheet of waxed paper to cover your work area.

  • Place two pretzel sticks vertically on the wax paper, spacing them about 1 inch shorter than the length of the pretzel sticks.

  • Smear a small dollop of icing on both ends of a pretzel stick with the butter knife and lay this pretzel stick horizontally across the distance between the two vertical sticks. Position the pretzel stick across the top of the two vertical sticks so the icing glues the sticks together.

  • Prepare two more pretzel sticks in the same way and attach these sticks horizontally beneath he top horizontal stick. Leave about 1 inch of vertical pretzel sticks for inserting into the cake.

  • Smear icing along the entire length of the last pretzel stick and lay this stick diagonally across the three horizontal sticks to finish the fence panel. Allow the icing to harden completely.

  • Make as many panels as you need and allow them all to set until the icing hardens.

  • Insert the pretzel fence posts of each fence panel into the cake, pushing each about 1 inch down into the cake.
