How to Make a Homemade Mouse Trap for Vehicles
There are two kinds of mousetraps you can make from home to put in your vehicle: the kind that kills or hurts the mouse or the kind that detains the mouse for later release. The mousetraps are identical to the type you would put in your home or office; the difference is in the placement of the mousetrap. Place the trap on the floor of the vehicle where the mouse is looking for pieces of fallen food. If you suspect a mouse is under the hood of your car, you can place a trap in there, wedging it into any space you can find. Once you catch a mouse, release it as far away from your vehicle as possible so that it doesn't return to its nest.
Things You'll Need
- 2-liter plastic soda bottle
- Scissors or sharp knife
- Duct tape
- Piece of cardboard
- Bricks
- Cheese
Instructions

1
Cut the plastic soda bottle horizontally right at the point where it slopes inward towards the opening. You can use scissors or a sharp knife.
-
2
Take the cut off top part and cut off about a centimeter below the opening where the top screws onto. This should be just wide enough for a mouse to fit into.
-

3
Flip the larger cut off plastic top of the soda bottle upside down and insert it back into the top of the bottom of the soda bottle. It should look like an inverted funnel inside a cylinder. Tape the edges together with duct tape.
-
4
Tape the bottom of the bottle to the cardboard to make a base. This will keep the bottle from toppling over as the mouse tries to scale the sides of the bottle. If you are going to wedge the bottle into your engine compartment, skip this step.
-
5
Put bricks on top of the cardboard base to stabilize the trap.
-
6
Drop cheese or other food through the hole as bait.
