How to Stop CD Duplication

How to Stop CD Duplication thumbnail
Blank CD's are capable of storing music and personal data.

In a world of media and music, piracy is a huge issue. Since the advent of the CD burner music piracy has increased drastically, causing the music industry to rethink their approach. Major recording studios have answered the issue by installing anti-burn software on their discs that prevent CD burners from creating a duplicate. Now, that same software is available for home use when creating a personal audio CD, even while using a basic CD burner.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Nero and start a new Audio CD compilation project. Add any tracks that you want to have on the disc.

    • 2

Click the "Burn" button and make sure that the box next to "Finalize Disc" is unchecked. This will prevent the CD from being completed.

    • 3

Insert a blank CD and press "Burn."

    • 4

Begin a separate Nero project, but this time start a "CD-ROM ISO" project.

    • 5

Look for the "Multisession" tab and check the box that says "Start Multisession Disc."

    • 6

Select the ISO tab and set the Data Mode to "Mode 2/XA."

    • 7

Add any data files you want to include on the CD such as album art or lyrics.

    • 8

Insert the first CD you created and press "Burn." Nero will tell you that the disc is not blank.

    • 9

Click "Yes" when Nero prompts you to add the current files as a second session.

    • 10

Open the CloneCD program and select "Read to Image File."

    • 11

Find the drive the CD is in and click "Next."

    • 12

Select the "Multimedia Audio CD" option and "Next."

    • 13

Save the file to your desktop for easy retrieval and click "Okay."

    • 14

Open Windows Notepad. The image you created from CloneCD will be saved on your desktop in three parts. The three files will end in .CDD, .IMG, and .SUB. In Notepad open the .CDD.

    • 15

Press "Ctrl+A" to select all of the contents of the .CDD file and then press "Ctrl+C" to copy it. Navigate to the Audio CD Passive Protection Demo website to create your personal copy protection file and paste the contents of the .CDD file into the website. Press "Upload."

    • 16

Copy the new contents of the .CDD file from the website after you press "Upload" and paste it back into the .CDD file in Notepad. It is important to make sure that all of the contents of the old .CDD file get overwritten. Save the file before closing Notepad.

    • 17

Insert a new blank CD into your computer and open CloneCD.

    • 18

Select the "Write From Image File" option and select the .CDD file that you just modified. Click "Next."

    • 19

Choose the CD drive that you inserted the blank disc into and click "Next."

    • 20

Choose the "Multimedia Audio CD" and press "OK" to start burning the CD with the copy protection.
