If you are caring for older men, you must understand how to use adult diapers to minimize any embarrassment or other problems, and also to keep your patient healthy. Removing the Diaper

Put on your rubber gloves.

Lay the person who needs a diaper change flat on his back.

Unfasten the diaper on the sides.

Ask your patient to roll onto his side, or if he is unable, gently help him lay on his side. Do not push or pull on his shoulders, arms, legs or directly on the hips. Use the area near the hips.

Guide your patient's knees toward his chest as gently as possible.

Pull the diaper away from the patient's skin and roll the soiled side in, containing any mess.

Dispose of the soiled diaper in the trash can.

Use the moist towelettes to thoroughly clean the skin that was covered by the diaper. No traces of mess should be left behind. Wipe from front to back.

Dry the skin that was cleaned. You may also need to apply lotion or baby powder to prevent chafing.

Roll the patient back onto his side.

Place the fresh diaper underneath him and then roll him onto it. Make sure that the patient is laying in the middle of the diaper and that the front and back are evenly matched with each other.

Fasten the fresh diaper.
