How do I Set Up a TV Tuner Through a DVR Box to a Computer? thumbnail
Watch programming on any computer as long as there is a TV tuner.

A digital video recorder (DVR) is typically built into satellite and cable receivers, allowing you to record programming directly onto the device. Although this is usually done in conjunction with a television, it is possible to set up a DVR to your computer. As long as the computer has a TV tuner card, you can watch recorded programming on the computer.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Install a TV tuner into your computer if you don't already have one. Connect an external tuner to a USB port on the computer. Once it's installed, download all software and drivers provided with the tuner.

    • 2

Connect the coaxial cable into the "Out" port on the back of the DVR box. Make sure the cable is tightly connected; otherwise, you will lose audio or video signals during playback.

    • 3

Insert the other end of the coaxial cable into the "In" port on the TV tuner card.

    • 4

Power on the DVR box and launch the installed software for the TV tuner card. The programming from the DVR box will now appear on the computer screen.
