Connect a Mac with an AirPort wireless card to a Linksys wireless router.

AirPort wireless cards can connect to any Linksys wireless router once the wireless network has been established. Check to make sure the Linksys wireless router is operational and sending out a signal before you try to connect the AirPort wireless computer to it. AirPort wireless cards come standard in Macintosh desktop and notebook computers. The process of joining a wireless network is the same for any Mac with an AirPort wireless card.

Instructions

    • 1

Click on the AirPort icon in the top menu bar near the system clock. If you don't see the AirPort icon, open "System Preferences" from the Dock.

    • 2

Choose "Turn AirPort On" from the drop-down menu that appears when you click on the AirPort icon. If you've opened "System Preferences," click on "Network" then choose "AirPort" from the list that appears. Click the button "Turn AirPort On."

    • 3

Wait for AirPort to scan for available networks. Your Linksys wireless network will appear in the dialog box that pops up. You may see a prompt asking if you want to automatically join the Linksys network in the future. Click "Yes."

    • 4

Enter your network password in the password box that appears. You set this password when you configured your wireless router.

    • 5

Open a browser and surf. Your AirPort card is now configured to join your Linksys router's wireless network.

Tips & Warnings

  • To see the AirPort icon in your menu bar, check the box that says "Show AirPort status in menu bar" when you're in the Network dialog box.

  • If your AirPort card has trouble locating the network, make sure you're close enough to the router to get the signal. The Apple support website also suggests restarting the computer if AirPort has trouble connecting.
