Instructions

1. Visit the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission information website to find a list of approved defensive driving classes. See Resources for a link.

2. Register for a course by calling a representative or school near you or enrolling in an online course. Check with the course provider first to make sure you will get a point reduction on your New Jersey license after you complete the course.

3. Pay the fee for the course and attend classes to complete the course.

4. Receive your completion certificate. Some schools will submit your certificate directly to the New Jersey DMV; for others, you will have to present your certificate at a Motor Vehicle Commission office.
