How Do I Create a Disc Image From a .DMG File and Burn to a DVD? thumbnail
A disc image is a digital copy of an entire DVD or CD.

Disc image (DMG) files, readable only on Mac computers, are the format in which many programs are downloaded. When a DMG file is opened on a Mac, it is actually mounted as if it were an external hard drive or flash drive. The DMG file can be burned to a CD or alternatively sent to another computer using email or another means of file sharing. If you are sharing the file with a computer running Windows, convert the file to an ISO, or disc image file, prior to sending.
