How do I Connect an External Microphone to a Canon GL2?

The Canon GL2 is a standard definition camcorder that falls in the "prosumer" category, which is high-end recording equipment that is still attainable by the general public. When recording video, you may want to connect an external microphone to better capture audio. Connect an external microphone to the GL2 using the optional MA-300 microphone adapter. You can add this adapter to the accessory shoe of your camera.

Things You'll Need

• MA-300
• XLR cable

Instructions

1. Hold the MA-300 microphone adapter so the microphone clamp is on the right, then slide it onto the accessory shoe of the GL2 located just behind the onboard microphone on the handle.

2. Tighten the circular shoe lock clockwise until it the MA-300 is secure. The shoe lock is located at the connection point between the MA-300 and the GL2.

3. 

   Microphones use XLR cables to connect to the GL2.

   Connect an XLR cable to the microphone and connect the other end to one of the two XLR slots on the MA-300. Line up the three prongs on the connector at the end of the cable with the three holes on the slots, then push the connector in until it clicks into place.
