How do I Take Care of an Infant Child?
Taking care of an infant can be an overwhelming task for someone who has never done it before. A baby relies on its caretaker for everything, so knowing the basic needs of an infant is essential. Once you develop a schedule and learn the proper methods for feeding, changing and putting the baby to sleep, taking care of an infant will become easier.

1
Wash your hands with soap and water before you handle your baby. They have weaker immune systems and should not be exposed to unnecessary germs.
-
2
Feed the infant every three hours. A newborn should be fed 2 to 3 oz. at each feeding.
-
-
3
Pick the baby up after you are finished feeding him, and lay him on you so that his head rests on your shoulder.
-
4
Support the neck and head with one hand, and pat the baby's back with the other. The baby will likely spit up, so placing a small cloth on your shoulder is a good idea.
-
5
Check the baby's diaper from time to time to make sure he is dry. If not, take off the dirty diaper, wipe from front to back using a baby wipe, and put on a new diaper.
-
6
Bathe an infant two to three times a week.
-
7
Fill a small tub with 2 in. warm water.
-
8
Hold the baby up in a seated position, with your hand supporting the baby's head and neck.
-
9
Dip a soft cloth into the water, then pour a small amount of gentle soap onto the cloth.
-
10
Rub the cloth all over the baby's body and head, being extra careful not to get soap in the eyes.
-
11
Rinse off the soap with water, and dry your baby with a cloth.
-
12
Put your baby on his back when you put him in his crib. This will reduce the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).
