Disguise eyebrows lost to alopecia with creative methods.

Alopecia is an autoimmune disorder resulting in some degree of hair loss. The type of hair loss may be complete in alopecia universalis or it may occur in circular patches in alopecia areata. If the alopecia affects hair on the face, eyebrows and eyelashes may fall out also. Disguise eyebrows lost to alopecia by using one of several methods to minimize the lack of eyebrows. Because hair loss due to alopecia is often temporary, your efforts may be necessary for only a short time.

Instructions

    • 1

Look at the photograph of yourself to recreate your eyebrows with the eyebrow pencil. Use small, light strokes with the pencil to make the appearance of individual hairs making up the eyebrows. Draw your eyebrows as realistically as possible, using the picture as a guide.

Style your hair with bangs, if possible, to hide the lack of eyebrows. Brush your hair down over your forehead and spray hairspray to hold your hair in place.

    • 3

Use a treatment technique called "dermatography" to place pigmented dots of color onto the skin where the eyebrows grew. Dermatography procedures take approximately one hour, and no anesthesia is necessary. Patients generally need two or three treatments, and the results last for years.
