How to Restore a Deleted Directory

A directory, in the computer sense, is simply the technical name for a folder. Directories hold files so that they are not all jumbled up in one space on your computer, making your computer more organized and easily navigable. If you happen to accidentally delete a directory, then all the files and folders in it are deleted as well. Luckily, this mistake is not permanent as you can restore a deleted directory.

Instructions

    • 1

Double-click on the Recycle Bin icon located on your computer's desktop.

    • 2

Locate the deleted directory within the Recycle Bin. Click on it to select it.

    • 3

Click on the "Restore this item" link located beneath the "Recycle Bin" tasks in the left-hand column of the Recycle Bin window. The deleted directory is restored to the location from which it was deleted.

Tips & Warnings

  • Select more than one directory to restore at a time by holding down the "Control" (CTRL) key as you click to select them.

  • If the deleted directory is no longer in the Recycle Bin, you cannot restore it.
