How to Test the Load Speed on a MacBook

If your MacBook seems to be loading pages slower than you expect it to, there is an easy way to check. By using a simple online speed check like Cnet's bandwidth test or the Online Speed Test, you can check if your computer is receiving the correct bandwidth. Most tests run in the same way and have similar location options.

Instructions

    • 1

Type the URL of the Internet speed testing website, such as Speedtest, into the address bar of your web browser (see Resources).

    • 2

Set your location according to the available servers. This will allow the speed test to give the most accurate reading of your speed.

    • 3

Click "Begin Test," and wait for the test to run its course. You will see a progress bar giving you an indication when the test is finished.

    • 4

Check the speed test result against the speeds of your given Internet package. If the numbers match up, your connection is fine. If your speeds are lower than they should be, contact your service provider.

Tips & Warnings

  • Try more than one speed check if you don't think the results of one are accurate.

  • Make sure your wireless network is password protected, or other people will be able to leech your bandwidth and reduce your speeds; your service provider will not be able to fix your speed if this is the problem.
