Resumes can be sent via email to apply for open positions.

Job searching can be very stressful. It takes a lot of time and energy to find jobs that you're qualified for, create an original cover letter, and send it along with your resume to apply for the job. This process is even more stressful if you're not familiar with one of the most common methods of applying for jobs, which is emailing your resume. This method makes the process faster, and once you're familiar with how to convert your resume to email format, you'll wonder how you ever spent hours printing pages and addressing envelopes to apply for jobs.

Instructions

    • 1

Avoid attaching your resume to the email. Instead, you'll be using the copy and paste method. Many, if not all, of resumes sent as attachments are never opened by potential employers.

    • 2

Double-check your contact information. Many resumes have addresses and phone numbers listed next to rather than underneath each other. To convert to email format, make sure each piece of informaiton occupies its own line and is typed one after another, not next to each other.

    • 3

Space out your resume. Be sure there is a line of space between each section and each item within the sections, such as between past job positions.

    • 4

Select all of the text within your resume either by highlighting it or by pressing the "Control" and "A" buttons on your computer's keyboard simultaneously.

    • 5

Left-align all the information in your resume and be sure your left and right margins are both set to one inch.

    • 6

Change the font of your entire resume to Courier with a size of 12 point. You will now have 65 characters per line, which can be accommodated by your email program.

    • 7

Copy the contents of your resume by right-clicking and selecting "Paste" or by pressing the "Control" button and the "C" button on your computer's keyboard simultaneously.

    • 8

Open a new email from your email program and paste the contents of your resume into the body of the email. You can right-click and select "Paste," or you can press the "Control" button and the "V" button on your computer's keyboard simultaneously.

    • 9

Send this email to yourself to test it before sending your reformatted resume to potential employers.
